Here's this week's edition of The Friday Five 🖐️

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, CCS VEX Robotics will become CCS Robotics as Cabarrus County Schools moves forward with a robotics program not centered around a single vendor.

 

While our name is changing, the student experience remains the same. Students will continue to design, build, collaborate, problem-solve, and compete with their school robotics teams, including continued participation in Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF) competitions. Additionally, the student participation fee will remain $200 for the 2026–2027 school year.

 

We’re excited for this next chapter of CCS Robotics and to continue providing high-quality robotics opportunities for students across our district.

Join us for the 2026 CCS Futures Fair on Tuesday, October 13, at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center!

🎓 Program Choice Fair: 5–7 p.m.

🏫 College, Career & Military Fair: 6–8 p.m.

Families can explore CCS Program Choice opportunities and connect with colleges, universities, career representatives and military recruiters, all in one evening.

Program Choice applications for the 2027-28 school year open October 1 and close November 30, 2026. For more information, email programchoice@cabarrus.k12.nc.us.

✅IMMUNIZATIONS: North Carolina law requires students to have all required immunizations and health assessment documentation on file with their school. Families have 30 calendar days from the first day of attendance to provide the required documentation. Students who have not met these requirements by the end of the 30-day period may not be permitted to attend school until the necessary records are provided.

If your child is missing the required immunizations or documentation, please contact your child’s healthcare provider as soon as possible. Your school nurse is also happy to help answer questions about what is required and assist families in identifying next steps.

✅SCHOOL NUTRITION: Need to apply for Free & Reduced-Price Meals or add money to your child’s meal account? Families can use LINQ Connect to complete a meal application, add funds, and search for their school's menu. Taking care of it now can help make breakfast and lunch a little easier as we begin the new school year. The link to apply for Free & Reduced meals has also been added to your links dashboard in ParentSquare.

✅2026-27 CCS TUTORING LIST: The 2026-27 CCS Tutor List is now available for families looking for additional academic support.

The tutor list includes CCS educators who have chosen to make their tutoring services available outside of the regular school day.

✅ATTENTION SENIORS: In mid-September, seniors who are eligible to graduate this school year will receive a personalized NC College Connect letter showing colleges where they may qualify for direct admission — without completing a traditional application first!

Create or make sure you can access your CFNC account. You will need it to view your NC College Connect opportunities and “claim your spot” with colleges that appear for you. Watch for your personalized letter in mid-September!

✅TECHNOLOGY REMINDERS: Technology fees for the 2026-27 school year may be payed through the K-12 Payment Center or by cash or check delivered to school. Please complete school-issued technology Acceptable Use Policy agreements that were delivered either through ParentSquare or Google Forms (varies by school.)

Cabarrus County Schools will be co-hosting a free workshop with The College Funding Coach® on September 17th at 6:00pm at West Cabarrus High School.

This event is for any family wanting to learn how to pay for college (Preschool - High School).

The College Funding Coach® was founded in 2002 to help families better understand the complexities of paying for college and how to make higher education more affordable. Since that time, The College Funding Coach® team has been on a mission to help families save on the high cost of higher education. They have established an approach that helps parents understand the college funding process, reduce their out-of-pocket expenses, and balance the challenge of saving for college and retirement simultaneously.

Even though we're only three days into the start of school, many of you have already been impacted by our amazing teachers. Please visit our link and nominate a Teacher of the Month for September. Our first winner will be recognized at the Board of Education's Sept. 14th meeting.

Just like your home, school buildings require more than routine upkeep as they get older.

You can change air filters, clean gutters, patch cracks, and make small repairs, but eventually the roof needs replacing, the HVAC system wears out, and the driveway needs to be resurfaced.

Schools are no different, except the buildings are much larger and serve hundreds or even thousands of people each day.

The average CCS elementary school is 22 years old, middle school average age is 23 years, and the average age of our traditional high schools is 36 years.

Many major systems that make up those schools have much shorter lifespans. A typical roof may last about 15-20 years, HVAC equipment about 18-20 years, and parking lots about 15-20 years before major replacement may be needed.

Regular maintenance can extend the life of these systems, but it cannot make them last forever. Major maintenance allows the district to replace aging systems, protect the community’s investment in its school buildings, and keep those facilities safe and functional for years to come.

The proposed Cabarrus County Schools GO Bond will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot.
