Superintendent's Message - August 10, 2023

Greetings,

Picture of Dr Kopicki

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!

We’re excited to welcome you back to school.. I encourage you to visit our Back-to-School page for valuable information about enrollment, academic calendars, school nutrition, and a variety of other useful information.

I am filled with excitement and optimism for the new school year that lies ahead. The possibilities are endless, and I am confident that by working together, we can continue to make a profound difference in the lives of our students.

The nearly 4,000 employees of Cabarrus County Schools are tireless in their commitment to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students.  Their dedication and preparation for this school year are unmatched, and we are ready for Every child. Every day. Whatever it takes.

Last year, we began the work of Destination 2025, our three-year strategic plan, which sets the path for the work we are doing in our district around these key areas: student wellness, teaching and learning, diverse talent, early learning, technology, and community engagement.

We are encouraged by our accomplishments over the past year, and we are excited to get started on our initiatives for this school year the will continue our journey towards reaching the goals laid out in Destination 2025. I look forward to sharing the details of our Destination 2025 work with you in the coming months.

We invite two-way communication between our schools and families. We will strive to create a safe and secure learning environment where strong partnerships and respectful relationships can flourish.  It is only by working together that we can build the kind of momentum that will launch Cabarrus County Schools into a new era of possibilities for students, parents, and the entire community. We encourage you to follow us on social media as we tell our story - your children’s story - to the world.

We invite you to RISE with us in 23-24 as we work to set a standard for others to follow and continue our work to be the best school system in the nation.

Stay Well,

John

  • Greetings,

    Picture of Dr Kopicki

I trust this message finds you well and enjoying your summer vacation with families and friends. I hope you have a restful break and come back energized as we continue to implement our district’s strategic plan, and continue on our journey to Destination 2025.  We are proud of the work our students and staff accomplished during the past year, and we’re excited to get the 2023-24 school year underway when Wolf Meadow students return on July 18th. We will welcome our early college and traditional calendar students back on August 10th.

Cabarrus County is thriving. Our district is growing rapdily with many new families choosing to call Cabarrus County home. Concord was recently named by Fortune Magazine as the nation’s 20th best city to raise a family.

Access to high-quality education is a key driver in that growth and economic success. Strong communities and strong schools go hand in hand. Based on next year’s enrollment projections, Cabarrus County Schools, the eighth largest district in North Carolina, will exceed the 35,000-student mark for the first time.

This growth is both exciting and challenging. Our school system is diversifying and undergoing an expansion of new demands and innovative ideas.

This year, I have held numerous community meetings, administered surveys, reached out to many members of our school community, and sought your input on many issues affecting our district.  In doing so, we heard your concerns and will take your input to heart as we move forward as a district. Improved communication was one of those issues of importantance to you, and we have implemented several changes to the way we will communicate information with you.

    • Our District is implementing ParentSquare as our primary school-to-home communications and parent engagement tool for the 2023-24 school year. It is our hope that you will utilize ParentSquare’s tools to connect with your school community. A key driver in the success of our schools and your students is to have open communications from home-to-school. For more information, you can visit our ParentSquare information page. If you have not yet activated your ParentSquare account, please visit the ParentSquare website and register using the email address or phone number associated with your student in PowerSchool.
    • Our transportation department is excited to introduce the Edulog app to our families this fall. Edulog will allow you to track your child’s bus ridership using GPS technology. Be on the lookout for more information to come as we approach the first day of school in August.
    • In an effort to make information more accessible, we have launched new district and school websites for the fall.  We hope you find our new webpages more user-friendly, more mobile-friendly, and easier to navigate. Please make sure to click on the “A-Z Index” located at the top of all our webpages, as well as the “I want to” dropdown menu located in the channel bar. We hope these features streamline your search for information.

As a reminder, we continue to enroll students of all ages for the fall.  Any child who is five years old on or before August 31, 2023, is eligible to register for kindergarten. Visit our district enrollment webpage by clicking HERE. Please contact your school directly to schedule an in-person enrollment visit.  You can find your assigned school by clicking on the CCS Find My School link.

Finally, our Back to School webpage is ready for your return. On this page, you can find important information including our Open House schedule.  Open House for middle and high schools will be held on August 7th with elementary schools hosting Open House events on August 8th. Wolf Meadow will hold it’s Open House on July 13th.

Safe travels this summer, and I look forward to beginning our year strong upon your return.

    Stay Well,

    John
