What are Advanced Teaching Roles (ATR)?

In Cabarrus County Schools, the Advanced Teaching Roles (ATR) initiative comprises two specific positions: Extended Reach Teachers (ERTs) and Multi-Classroom Leaders (MCLs). This program offers teacher-leaders the opportunity to broaden their impact without leaving the classroom entirely, presenting a chance for increased compensation.

ERTs assume an additional caseload, employing innovative teaching models such as combining sections or utilizing a hybrid approach. Often supported by well-trained Reach Assistants, ERTs can focus on one subset of students while the assistant oversees another, maximizing instructional efficiency.

MCLs directly coach a group of teachers, leading professional learning communities and ensuring student performance. Multi-Classroom Leaders assume responsibility for the academic performance of students on the rosters of the teachers under their guidance. MCLs may conduct targeted direct instruction by pulling small groups of students, a strategy informed by data analysis. Through co-teaching, model-teaching, and data-informed instruction, MCLs enhance the teaching and learning experience for both educators and students.
