Cabarrus County Schools celebrated the opening of its new Opportunity School facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at noon.

The ceremony, held at the new facility located at 4525 Weddington Rd in Concord, included remarks from district leaders, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and an opportunity for guests to tour the facility.

The new Opportunity School reflects Cabarrus County Schools' continued commitment to providing innovative learning environments that meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and emotional needs of students. Serving students in grades 6–12, the school offers personalized pathways and comprehensive support designed to help every student continue progressing toward graduation and future success.

"The Opportunity School reflects our belief that every student deserves the support, resources, and opportunities needed to succeed," said Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki. "This new facility provides an environment intentionally designed to meet students where they are, support their individual needs, and help them build a successful future."

The Opportunity School serves students through a referral process initiated by their home school and finalized by the district's Administrative Services Office. The school houses both Opportunity Middle School and Opportunity High School programs within one facility.

Students receive instruction in core academic subjects, physical education, and select Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. The school also provides Exceptional Children's services, counseling, enrichment opportunities, incentive programs, and student support groups to help students achieve academic, behavioral, and personal growth.

Designed by Morris-Berg Architects and built by New Atlantic Contracting, Inc, the new facility has been designed to better support the school's mission of providing a safe, structured, and student-centered learning environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
