The countdown to a new school year is on! Whether you're returning for another great year or joining the Cabarrus County Schools family for the first time, now is the perfect time to get ready. Here are five quick reminders to help your family start the school year with confidence.

✅Mark Your Calendar: Open House events are just around the corner, and the first day of school is Wednesday, August 12. Visit www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/openhouse for your school's Open House date and time.

✅Gather School Supplies: Elementary and middle school supply lists are available online. Shopping early helps students begin the year prepared and ready to learn. Find your school's list at www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/schoolsupplies. As a reminder, high school supply lists will be provided by individual teachers during the first days of school.

✅Check Your Transportation: If your child will ride the bus and you did not complete a transportation request form prior to school getting out in May or when you enrolled your child this summer, please be sure to request transportation through your child's school if you haven't already. Bus passes will be available at your child's Open House. Bus route information will be uploaded to the Edulog Parent Portal beginning August 3.

✅KINDERGARTEN STAGGERED START:

We are so excited to welcome our kindergarteners! All CCS elementary schools use staggered entry. Kindergarten staggered entry is a gradual school start where rising kindergarteners are split into small groups to attend just one designated day during the first few days of school before joining together for regular daily attendance. The CCS staggered entry window is August 12, 13, 14, and 17th. All CCS kindergarteners will report together on August 18th. If you are the parent of a rising kindergartener, you will hear your child’s staggered start date from your school by August 10th at the latest. 

✅HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE UPDATE:

CCS high schools are working diligently to have student schedules available for Open House. While every effort is being made to have schedules finalized, schools are continuing to hire teachers and make necessary master schedule adjustments.

Please note that any schedule changes made after Open House are based on staffing and scheduling needs. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our schools prepare for a successful start to the school year.

✅ATTENTION SENIORS AND FAMILIES: Get Ahead This Summer with NC College Connect & CFNC. As we wrap up the school year, we want to help our rising seniors get a strong start on their postsecondary planning. One important step is participating in NC College Connect and creating a CFNC account this summer. CFNC (College For North Carolina) is a free resource that helps students plan, apply, and pay for college. By creating an account now, students will be better prepared to:

Cabarrus County Schools has many buildings that need major repairs and updates. These include replacing old roofs, heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, repairing parking lots, improving safety features, and taking care of other building needs. After years of historic growth in Cabarrus County that led to the construction of several new schools, many of our aging school buildings still need important maintenance and repairs. Thirteen of our 44 schools were built prior to 2000, and of these, six are more than forty years old.

The purpose of this year's proposed GO Bond is to:

In the past, Cabarrus County has used different ways to pay for school construction and major building projects. One option available to local governments is a Limited Obligation Bond (LOB). LOBs do not require voter approval. They are approved by the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners and the Local Government Commission and have helped pay for new schools and other major construction projects. Most recently, LOBs were used to help fund the new Northwest Cabarrus High School replacement and a new elementary school in northwestern Cabarrus County.

A General Obligation (GO) Bond is different because it must be approved by voters. If voters approve the proposed 2026 GO Bond, the funding would be used for the school facility projects included in the bond proposal.

The last school General Obligation (GO) Bond referendum in Cabarrus County was held in 2014 to provide funding for the replacement of Royal Oaks School of the Arts.

The proposed Cabarrus County Schools GO Bond will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot.
