Superintendent's Message - October 12, 2022

Welcome to Fall!Picture of Dr. Kopicki

Congratulations to R. Brown McAllister STEM Elementary School on their recent recognition as a North Carolina STEM School of Distinction. Acknowledgement for the school's designation as a Model STEM School took place during the North Carolina Public Schools State Board of Education meeting in Raleigh last week, which I was honored to attend with Principal Jessica Blanchard on behalf of her staff and students.

This month is National Bullying Prevention Month. Cabarrus County Schools is proud to join in this international effort to bring together communities throughout the world and unite against bullying. Throughout the month, our students and staff will participate in activities and events designed to encourage kindness and inclusion. You can search #CCSBeKind2022 on social media to see photos of our activities.

The week of Oct.10-14th is National School Lunch Week. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our entire School Nutrition Program for their hard work and dedication to our students and families in CCS.  This year’s theme is “Peace, Love, & School Lunch.” Parents and students can follow and share your National School Lunch Week pictures with us by using the hashtags #NSLW2022, #PeachLoveSchoolLunch, #SchoolLunch, and #CabCoSchools on social media. Be sure to follow the CCS School Nutrition Program (@cabcokidscafe) on Instagram and Twitter!

The Inaugural CCS Futures Fair is coming up on October 17th at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center.  This event will feature not only our Program Choice offerings for current students in Cabarrus County Schools, but also has extended this year to include career, college and military representatives for our upcoming graduates. The Futures Fair will begin at 6pm and information is available on the CCS homepage. There will be food trucks on site at the Arena. This year’s fair has something for every student in Cabarrus County.

Online applications for our 2023-24 Program Choice schools will open on Monday, Oct. 17th and run through Friday, Dec. 16th with online parental notification of acceptance during the week of Feb. 1st, 2023. Application information can be found on the CCS Program Choice webpage.

There is much to celebrate in our district.  Our students and staff are doing phenomenal things as we work to become a model district in our nation and meet the needs of Every student. Every day, Whatever it takes.

Stay Well,

John
