School Bond 2026: What is a General Obligation (GO) Bond?

A General Obligation (GO) Bond is one way local governments pay for major public projects that will serve the community for many years. These projects can include schools, roads, parks, libraries, and other public buildings.
Instead of paying the full cost all at once, a GO Bond allows a county to borrow money and repay it over time.
If approved by voters in November, GO Bond funds can only be used for the capital projects listed in the bond proposal. They cannot be used for everyday operating expenses like teacher salaries, classroom supplies, or utility bills.
The proposed Cabarrus County Schools GO Bond will appear on the November 3, 2026 ballot.
