WCHS students, Dream On 3 rally around classmate

From Dream On 3
At West Cabarrus High School, dreams don’t live on the sidelines — they’re chased together. On Wednesday, January 21, students, staff, and community members came together to celebrate Dreamer Joseph Goodman, an 18-year-old student living with Down syndrome. A devoted Phoenix Suns fan, Joseph dreams of experiencing the magic of an NBA game day with the team.
Joseph discovered his love for sports at just three years old through the Special Olympics, and from that moment on, sports became his joy, his confidence, and his place to belong.
Through Dream On 3 and the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, that dream is no longer distant — it’s now within reach. West Cabarrus students stepped into leadership roles to do what Dream On 3 is all about: turning dreams into reality through teamwork. Alongside community partners Smile Cabarrus and Bob Ross, the student-led team has rallied support, fundraised, and united their school around one powerful goal — celebrating Joseph and helping bring his Dream Experience to life.
The celebration began Wednesday morning with a 10th-grade gathering in the school auditorium, where Joseph was surprised with his official Dream Day announcement. The event featured custom gifts, special recognitions, and meaningful moments that reflected the heart of the Junior Dream Team program — bringing students and the broader community together around hope, joy, and encouragement.
Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the West Cabarrus Junior Dream Team, Joseph’s Dream Experience will include exclusive behind-the-scenes moments, special time with the team prior to tip-off, custom gifts, a limo ride to the airport, and VIP accommodations at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix. The experience will culminate as the Phoenix Suns take on the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 7:00 PM.
Joseph’s story is a powerful reminder of why Dream On 3 exists — because every child deserves a dream worth chasing, and no dream is too big when a community chooses to come together.
