Dear CCS families, students, and staff:

Welcome back!

There is something special about the first day of school. After months of planning and preparation, our buses will soon be back on the roads, our classrooms will be full again, and our students will be walking through our doors ready for a new year. I am incredibly proud to welcome our students and families back to Cabarrus County Schools tomorrow.

For some students, the first day of school will be exciting. For others, there may be a few nerves mixed in. And for many parents, there is probably a little bit of both. Whether this marks the beginning of kindergarten, senior year, or anything in between, I hope every student walks into school knowing there are people here who care about them and want them to succeed.

As we get started, a few simple reminders can make these first days a little easier:

  • Please have students at their bus stop at least 10 minutes before their scheduled pickup time.
  • Give yourself some extra time in the morning. Bus routes, car rider lines, and arrival procedures usually take a few days to settle into a routine.
  • Make sure your school has your current phone number, email address, and emergency contact information.
  • Review your child's transportation plan with them, especially our younger students, so they know how they are getting home in the afternoon.
  • Please be patient with our bus drivers, school staff, and one another. The first few days are busy, and everyone is working hard to get students where they need to be safely.

And when your child gets home, ask them about their day. Ask who they sat with at lunch. Ask about their teacher. Ask what made them laugh or what surprised them. Sometimes those simple conversations tell us more than "How was school?" ever will.

To our families, thank you for trusting us with your children. We don't take that responsibility lightly.

And to our students, I hope you have a great first day. Work hard, be kind to each other, try something you haven't tried before, and don't worry if everything doesn't go perfectly on the first day. You have an entire school year ahead of you.
