Personnel Announcement

Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki has announced the following personnel appointments, which were approved by the Board of Education on Monday, February 12th.

Christopher Myers, principal at Northwest Cabarrus High School, has been named principal at Cox Mill High School replacing Andrew Crook, who will retire at the end of February. Chris will begin his new role at Cox Mill High School at the conclusion of the 2023-24 school year. He will remain at Norhwest Cabarrus High School for the remainder of this school year while a search is completed for the school's next principal.

Chris began his career in education as a high school Social Studies teacher and coach in 1998. He came to Cabarrus County Schools in 2013 as Assistant Principal of Instruction at Hickory Ridge High School where he served until he was named Principal at Northwest Cabarrus High School in 2016. Over the last eight years at Northwest Cabarrus High, Chris led the school to exceed expected growth multiple years and to achieve numerous accolades for the school’s extracurricular activities performance. He is the current Cabarrus County Schools Principal of the Year.

Chris holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Mike Drye has been named interim principal at Cox Mill High School replacing Andrew Crook, who is retiring at the end of February.  Mike will begin his role at Cox Mill High School on March 1st.

Mike recently retired as a 16-year veteran principal in a neighboring school district where he led multiple schools including Hawk Ridge Elementary, Garinger High School, Nathaniel Alexander Elementary, Bain Elementary, Hemby Bridge Elementary, and New Salem Elementary. Since his retirement, Mike has served in various interim principal roles.

Mike holds a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Carolyn Rodd has been named interim principal at Winecoff Elementary School. Carolyn began her new role at Winecoff on February 14th and will serve while a search is completed for the school's next principal.

Prior to her recent retirement, Carolyn served as a principal in a neighboring district for over 13 years, including service at Garinger High School, Collinswood Language Academy, and Huntingtowne Farms Elementary.

Carolyn earned her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and master's degrees from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Winthrop University. She also has an Administrative Dual Language Certificate from East Carolina University.

Congratulations to Chris on his new role within the district and welcome Mike and Carolyn to Cabarrus County Schools.
