Personnel Announcement

Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki has announced the following personnel appointments, which were approved by the Board of Education on Monday, April 15th.  

Acquanetta Edmond, West Learning Community Superintendent for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), has been named principal at West Cabarrus High School, replacing Dr. Elizabeth Snyder who is resigning effective May 24th. Acquanetta will begin her new role at West Cabarrus on June 3rd. 

Acquanetta served as a teacher and assistant principal before serving as principal at Lake Wylie Elementary School (CMS), River Gate Elementary School (CMS), and Hickory Grove Elementary School (CMS). She served as Executive Director in CMS’ Central and South Learning Communities before being named Superintendent of CMS’ Northwest Learning Community in 2019. Acquanetta began her current position in 2022. 

Acquanetta holds a bachelor’s degree from South Carolina State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.  She is also a graduate of Queen’s University’s McColl Executive Leadership Cohort. 

Chad Thomas, principal at Bailey Middle School in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) system, has been named principal at Northwest Cabarrus High School, replacing Chris Myers, who will transfer to the same position at Cox Mill High School at the conclusion of this school year. Chad will start his new role at Northwest Cabarrus High School on June 4th. 

Chad began his education career as a Physical Education teacher in CMS in 1995. He moved into administration as an assistant principal at Lincoln Heights Elementary in 2000 before serving as principal at Pawtucket Academy of Excellence and Long Creek Elementary, all within CMS.  He began his current role at Bailey Middle in 2012. 

Chad holds a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. 

Christopher Bernard, principal at James Martin Middle School in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) system, has been named principal at Winecoff Elementary School, replacing Interim Principal Carolyn Rodd, who will remain in her position through the end of the school year. Chris will begin his role at Winecoff Elementary School on May 31st. 

Chris began his educational career as a teacher in CMS in 1999. He moved into administration in 2013 as Dean of Instruction at Druid Hills Academy and later served as principal of University Meadows Elementary School and his current position at James Martin Middle in 2021, all within CMS. 

Chris earned his bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York College at Buffalo and a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
