2020-21 School Year
Back to School Means Big Changes
Hello AOHT students and families! I’m sure by now you’ve heard that the 2020-21 school year will start under Plan C which means all virtual. While I know this causes a lot of concern, please know we’re all in this together and we are committed to continued learning even virtually. Your teachers have been working hard all summer to prepare for anything and everything and they are excited to see your bright, shining faces!!! The district has a plan for our 1:to:1 initiative (everyone in Cabarrus County Schools will have their own Chromebook and/or laptop, if required for certain courses). The Hickory Ridge Chromebook pickup will be August 12, 13, and 14th from 8-11am and then again from 1-4pm.
The only schedule changes we can make are if a student in in the wrong class or missing a required class (like their AOHT course for the year).
Another great question I’ve received (and it’s a fair question) is “Why participate in the Academy if most of what makes the academy great is gone (internships, field trips, guest speakers, etc)?” The best answer I have is “hold tight… we’re coming back and we will be great again!” I can’t promise when it will happen but please know we’re working night and day to get opportunities back for our student when it’s safe.
Finally, if you haven’t already, please join the Remind group by texting “@hrhsaohtXX” (your graduation year) to 81010. Example if you are a rising 9th grader or parent of one you should text @hrhsaoht24 to 81010. You only need to join once during your time in high school and I will be able to share grade-specific info with you (including scholarships/internships after graduation). You may opt out at any time via the Remind app or by sending me an email asking to be removed.

Lets have a great year!!
