Students to Return to Remote Learning
Students to Return to Remote Learning 12/09/2020
All Cabarrus County Schools students will return to remote learning on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020. The Cabarrus County Board of Education made this decision in a 5-to-2-vote during an Emergency Called meeting on Dec. 9th.
COVID-19 data indicators have reached record high levels locally and across the state and nation. During its discussion, the board cited the county’s status as Red per North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services metrics, as well as metrics monitored by Cabarrus Health Alliance. The Red status indicates that our county is experiencing significant community spread. Currently in Cabarrus County, the percent positive rate for those who are tested for COVID-19 is 13%.
Board members also acknowledged and expressed appreciation for the measures implemented throughout the district to protect the health and safety of students and staff upon the return to in-person learning (Plan B) on Oct. 19th.
Remote learning for all students will continue until the end of the first semester in January. Students will attend classes remotely Monday-Thursday for synchronous learning; Friday will continue to be an asynchronous day. KIDS:PLUS will remain open during this period of remote learning.
Board members and CCS staff will continue to work with Cabarrus Health Alliance to monitor and review COVID-19 health indicators for Cabarrus County throughout the winter break and into January. Students will return to in-person learning in Plan B on January 19, 2021.
