Family & Consumer Science Career Pathways

Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FCS) is a series of pathways that provide students with the knowledge for how to deal with major societal issues, such as work-and-family, healthcare, child and elder care, family and community violence and crime, global economics and politics, and technology usage.  Family and Consumer Sciences Education is a catalyst for bringing these issues into action-oriented, skill-building educational programs.

Family and Consumer Sciences Education courses help students develop personal effectiveness and industry-relevant technical skills.  Students who complete a four-course concentration in one of these pathways are prepared to enter the workforce or post-secondary education in the areas of Human Development; Personal and Family Finance; Housing and Interior Design; Food Science, Nutrition, and Wellness; Textiles and Apparel; and Consumer Services.

Career & Technical Education courses offered in Cabarrus County Schools are part of the pathways mentioned below.  More information about careers in Family and Consumer Sciences Education can be found online at  Information about the 16 Career Clusters created by the US Department of Education can be found at
