Congratulations to the Hickory Ridge High School “Bad to the Bone” trombone ensemble for reaching the Final Four of The American Prize competition.
Members of the ensemble include Wesley Connor, Caleb White, Violet Goldberg, Nihal Kollath, and Davis Rhyne.
The American Prize is a competition that recognizes different aspects of music performance including full bands, chamber groups, and conducting. The “Bad to the Bone” ensemble is entered into the high school Chamber Music Performance division. Judging is done online.
Finalists will be announced in the spring, and the winner will be announced this summer. Winners receive a cash prize for their school band program.
In addition, this group is also performing January 21 for the NC Trombone Festival, which is held on the campus of the University of North Carolina Charlotte. They are the only high school group performing for over 160+ registered collegiate and professional attendees, college, and military trombone ensembles.
“These HRHS kids are something special, to be sure,” said Hickory Ridge Band Director, Chris White.
