BOE Meeting Update

The Cabarrus County Board of Education met on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, for their monthly Business Meeting. Here is an update of recognitions, presentations, and approved action items from the meeting.

 

RECOGNITIONS

  • Equitable Impact Through Education Awards for January were presented to the following students and staff members from Cox Mill Elementary School.

PRESENTATIONS and UPDATES

            Dr. Jonathan Bowers, Chief of School Performance and Auxiliary Services, updated the Board on the current staffing levels of the transportation department.

            Amy Jewell, Student and Family Support Director, presented updates on current efforts to address student wellness and mental health across the district.

            Brian Cone, Director of Architecture, Planning and Construction, gave updates on several current construction projects including: R. Brown McAllister replacement school, new track surface at Concord High School, parking lot and traffic-flow design improvements at Cox Mill High School, the planned replacement school for Northwest Cabarrus High School, and the impact of upcoming road work to Union Cemetery Road in proximity to the CCS Transportation facilities.

            Dr. John Kopicki, Superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools, presented Destination 2025, the CCS Strategic Plan.

            Dr. Marion Bish, CCS Chief of Human Resources, and Dr. Michael Williams, Director of Human Resources, gave updates to the Board on current and future strategies to recruit and retain staff members in the district.

           

ACTION ITEMS

The Board voted to approve the following agenda items:

  • By consent, the Board approved revisions to:
    • Policies 2123, Board Member Opportunities for Development
    • Policy 3220, Technology in the Educational Program
    • Policy 6125, Administering Medicines to Students
    • Policy 7130, Licensure
  • A revision to the Board Meeting calendar which includes a combined work and business session on March 6, 2023, and a March 13 Legislative Meeting.
  • The Board unanimously approved a revision to Policy 2120, Code of Ethics for School Board Members.
  • The Board approved revisions to Policy 6140, Student Wellness.

The Board of Education will next meet on Saturday, January 21, for their annual planning session which will begin at 8:30 A.M. at Roberta Road Middle School. This meeting is open to the public and the agenda can be viewed on BoardDocs.
