BOE Meeting Update

The Cabarrus County Board of Education met on Monday, September 19, 2022 for their monthly Business Meeting. Here is an update of recognitions and approved action items from the meeting.

 

RECOGNITIONS

  • Equitable Impact Through Education Awards for September were presented to the following students and staff members from Beverly Hills STEM Elementary School and Northwest Cabarrus STEM Middle School.
    • Beverly Hills STEM Elementary School
      • Students: Abram W. and Maria A.
      • Support Staff: Patty Knox
      • Certified Staff: Cori Cauble

    • Northwest Cabarrus STEM Middle School
      • Students: Jordan W. and Zarriya Y.
      • Support Staff: Jennifer “Marlene” Peeler

  • Hilbish Ford September Teacher of the Month
    • Suzanne Jones, Concord High School

  • Great Wolf Lodge Everyday Hero Award for September
    • Virgil Powell, Lead Bus Driver for three CCS Schools

  • Beginning Teacher of the Year, sponsored by the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching
    • Natalia Mejia, C.C. Griffin STEM Middle School ESL Teacher

  • 2021 Clyde L. Propst Jr. Memorial Award, presented in recognition of volunteer service by the Cabarrus County Fair Board.
    • Carolyn Carpenter, Member, CCS Board of Education

 

PRESENTATIONS

         Karl Sain, CCS Director of Advanced Academics, presented District Report Card data to the Board of Education. The Board acknowledged teacher’s hard work to recover from pandemic learning loss and the growth made by our schools in the 2021-22 school year.

         Cabarrus County Schools’ Hendrick Auto Mall Concord Mills Teacher of the Year Angie McClain, Teacher Liaison to the Board,  presented her CCS Spotlight on Educators series and focused on the positive impacts the Summer Bridge program has had on rising Kindergarteners in the District.

 

ACTION ITEMS

The Board voted unanimously to approve the following action agenda items:

  • 2023 School Academic Calendars for traditional schools, Early Colleges and Wolf Meadow Elementary School.
  • Authorization to Superintendent Dr. John Kopicki to begin the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for district realignment.
  • Initial Budget Resolution presented by CCS Chief Financial Officer, Carol Herndon.
  • E-Rate purchase requisition, the Softchoice annual contract for Microsoft Office, and the Apple replacement cycle purchases requested by CCS Chief of Technology, Ben Allred.

The Board of Education will meet on Monday, October 3rd for a Work Session and on Monday, October 10th for a Business Meeting. The agendas and live stream links will be available on the CCS district website and social media channels.
