CCS Partners with UNCC for Teacher Residency Program

CCS Partners with UNCC for Teacher Residency Program 04/15/2020
Cabarrus County Schools is partnering with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Cato College of Education for the UNC Charlotte Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP), a teacher residency program designed to diversify the teaching workforce for understaffed subject areas and high-need schools in our district.
Through the program, which is funded by a $1.8 million grant the U.S. Department of Education under the Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) program, graduates can earn initial teacher licensure and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in less than 18 months.
The program builds on UNCC’s current residency programs and will provide an infusion of teachers into CCS by focusing on aspiring middle and secondary school teachers in math, science, foreign language, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Students in the program will receive a living wage stipend that covers the full cost of tuition, textbooks and supplies, and additional expenses.
