CMHS and NCHS Academies Earn National Recognition
CMHS and NCHS Academies Earn National Recognition 04/03/2020
Congratulations to the Cox Mill High School Academy of Information Technology and the Northwest Cabarrus High School Academy of Health Science for being named National Academy Foundation (NAF) Distinguished Academies – NAF’s highest level of achievement.
This designation is given to a select few academies that have reached Model Level on NAF’s annual assessment, exhibiting strong fidelity to an educational design that prepares students for success in college and careers.
CCS Director of Career and Technical Education Rusty Parker, said, “This recognition is a testament to all those who help make our academies a success; without our students, teachers, business and community partners, we couldn’t achieve this level of success.”
Model Level is determined by an academy’s score on the assessment, which measures strengths and challenges in implementing NAF’s results driven educational design, followed by an onsite visit to the academy. The visit is conducted by a team of distinguished leaders, outside experts, and NAF staff to verify that the academy is meeting fidelity to an educational design that prepares students for success in college and careers. A subset of these high-performing academies meets additional thresholds to reach Distinguished level.
The assessment is designed to help all academies assess their progress and move up on the continuum of NAF’s standards.
NAF Chief Executive Officer JD Hoye, said, “At a time of great uncertainty and rapid changes in education, we are proud to celebrate these outstanding academies for the work they are doing to support student success. Congratulations on this terrific accomplishment, and we look forward to your continued achievements!”
