Bethel Receives Book Donation
Bethel Receives Book Donation 10/10/2019
In an effort to make a positive impact on education in its local community, Subaru Concord supported The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) by donating award-winning science books to Bethel Elementary School as part of a larger Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) initiative called Subaru Loves Learning.
Throughout the month of August, Subaru Concord asked customers to inspire students to learn more about science by writing a note of encouragement on bookmarks to be donated to Bethel Elementary. Over 150 award-winning science books, 150 bookmarks, as well as a $1000 Staples gift card were delivered to Bethel Elementary School Principal Julie Barbee and staff on Oct. 10th by Subaru Concord team members Earl Broadway, Sales Manager and Whitney Marti, Customer Liaison.
The donated books are selected from the winners and finalists of the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books, an award that emphasizes the importance of science books for both information and enjoyment. This year's selection of books exemplifies outstanding and engaging science writing and illustration for young readers. More than 80% of the fastest growing jobs in the U.S. are in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and only 36% of high school students are ready for college-level science. With the inclusion of outstanding K-12 science trade books in the classroom, teachers can help bridge the gap.
The Subaru Loves Learning initiative, now in its fifth year, reflects our desire to improve the education and the lives of those in the local communities where we live and work. This initiative is a part of the larger Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment effort dedicated to making a positive impact in the world.
