CCS Hosts Annual ESL Summer Enrichment Program 07/02/2019
The ESL/Title III Department hosted its 4th Annual ESL Summer Enrichment Program in June.
The two-week program offered academic support to middle and high school students that are new to the United States and to students classified as SIFE (Students with Interrupted Formal Education). Sixteen students attended the program representing ten different countries.
The Title III/ ESL Department seeks to improve educational success by strengthening student’s academic English language skills. Students experienced learning centers based on the WIDA ELD Standards with a career-ready capstone project component. The capstone project allowed students to practice the strategies learned during the program by giving a three-minute presentation to their small groups.
Students also had the opportunity to listen to representatives from the College Foundation of North Carolina, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Concord Public Library, and the Girl Scouts to learn about the resources and programs offered.
On the final day, students celebrated their language accomplishments and had the opportunity to listen to a panel of bilingual community representatives that shared their education and career experiences. The program also provided lunch and transportation to all students attending.
