With the help of parent volunteers and students from C.C. Griffin Middle School, Patriots STEM students and staff spent a day packing more than 60,000 meals that will be sent to Nicaragua.
The school teamed up with Servants with a Heart, an organization dedicated to feeding hungry families in Charlotte and around the world. The group works with organizations to host meal-packing events.
Students took part by adding one of the four ingredients (rice, a soy protein mix, dried vegetables, and a vitamin powder) holding the bag under the funnel, weighing the bag, sealing the bag, or counting the bags before packing the box.
Before students donned their hair nets and assembled meals, they learned about hunger and how it affects children near and far. They also learned about Nicaragua and played a version of Jeopardy to see what they remembered from the presentation.
Other CCS schools have teamed up with Servants with a Heart to host meal-packing events.
