The Cabarrus County Board of Education recognized students and staff at its Business Meeting on Monday, April 10th.
 
CCS Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month
Superintendent Dr. Chris Lowder and Mrs. Glenda Jones recognized Jill Trott, as the CCS Hilbish Ford Teacher of the Month for April, 2017. Mrs. Trott is a First Grade teacher at Beverly Hills Elementary.
 
Each month, Hilbish Ford honors a CCS teacher for his or her outstanding work in the classroom. Teachers are nominated by parents or students. Hilbish presents the teacher with a trophy and a cash prize.
 
Impact Through Education Awards
Mrs. Ronnye Boone, Director of Communications & Public Information presented Impact Through Education Awards to students and staff for their respective schools.
 
Sponsored by BB&T Banking & Trust, the Impact Awards honor individuals who exemplify the qualities of initiative, hard work, and respect for others. Impact Award honorees were joined by their families and members of their schools’ administrative team as they received their awards.

Youth Art Month Superintendent’s Choice Awards

Each year during Youth Art Month (YAM) in March, Cabarrus County Schools hosts an art exhibit featuring original pieces from CCS students in preschool through 12th grade. This year, the YAM Exhibit has been on display at the Cabarrus Art Guild in Downtown Concord. The superintendent selects three pieces to include in his permanent collection, which is housed at the Education Center. The Cabarrus County Education Foundation provides a generous cash prize to each of the three winning artists. The Superintendent’s Choice Selections for 2017 are:
  • Elementary School Level – Emily LaMattina, Cox Mill Elementary School, Bearden Guitar
    Art Teacher, Jessica Lizarazo

  • Middle School Level – Jerry Chen, Harris Road Middle School, Harmony
    Art Teacher, Kerrilou Carpenter

North Carolina Governor’s School
The Governor’s School is the oldest statewide summer residential program for academically or intellectually gifted high school students in the nation. Ben Allred, Director of High Schools and Nicole Sandor, K-12 Gifted Coordinator recognized fifteen CCS high school students as having been selected to attend the Governor’s School of North Carolina summer program:
