Effective Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, wearing masks inside CCS schools and buildings will be optional for students, staff, and essential visitors (e.g., school-based health, mental health, and education service providers). The district will continue to limit other visitors to our schools and other buildings.
North Carolina State Law requires school boards to review face mask policies once each month during the 2021-2022 school year (Section 10 Senate Bill 546). Future decisions about mask requirements will be based on the following metrics:
COVID positivity rate in Cabarrus County
COVID case count in Cabarrus County (in the last 14 days)
Percent of Cabarrus County Schools students who became COVID positive during the previous week
Percent of Cabarrus County Schools students currently in quarantine due to COVID
There are a few situations where masks still will be required:
Students/staff riding on school buses
Students returning from quarantine prior to the full 14-day requirement as a condition of early return
Students who are symptomatic or identified as close contacts waiting in the nurse’s office for a parent to pick them up
Students and staff may continue to wear masks in school if they choose.
The superintendent will modify masking requirements according to the approved COVID Metric Guidelines as necessary.
