CCS Shares 2020-2021 Testing Data
Cabarrus County Schools shared 2020-2021 test results today in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s (NCDPI) release of testing data for the state. All federal, state, and local accountability was waived in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When the pandemic interrupted in-person instruction, we pivoted and adjusted our instruction to accommodate learning,” said Dr. Crystal Hill, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. “We know that in-person instruction works best for most students and will use these testing results to develop plans for instruction to support student learning.”
The results released today serve as baseline data that will inform district decisions about how to plan for instruction as students return to school for in-person learning. Additionally, comparisons between results for the 2020-2021 academic year and previous years are discouraged.
More than half of the students enrolled (55.4%) in CCS achieved grade level proficiency in all subject areas tested.
“Cabarrus County Schools has excellent teachers led by fantastic school leaders who are prepared to accelerate learning this year,” Dr. Hill said.
Graduation Rate & Other High School Data
The district’s graduation rate continues to outpace the state average. For the 2020-2021 academic year, the CCS four-year cohort graduation rate is 91.1%. Ensuring that students graduate high school prepared for college or careers continues to be a focus for Cabarrus County Schools, and it is employing several strategies to facilitate that goal, including making schools and classrooms spaces that engage students and facilitate learning.
Additionally, each CCS high school has a graduation coach who supports students to ensure they graduate on time; Program Choice provides pathways for students to pursue academic programs aligned to their interests, which has a direct impact on the graduation rate.
Other high school-specific data released in today’s report shows that of the CCS students who took the ACT, 59.9% scored at least a 17, which is the minimum score required for admission into colleges and universities in the North Carolina System. Additionally, 67.5% of students who took the WorkKeys exam earned a silver rating or higher on the career and technical education exam.
