Outdoor Mask Guidance for High School and Middle School Athletic Events
Based on the Governor’s Executive Order 209 and new guidance from the NC High School Athletic Association, masks are no longer required for outdoor events.
The Order becomes effective at 5 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021.
In situations where students are not actively participating and unable to physically distance, they are strongly encouraged, but not required, to wear masks.
Spectators at Outdoor Events:
Masks are no longer required at outdoor events; however, spectators are strongly encouraged to wear masks when unable to maintain physical distance.
While not required, NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) still recommends anyone who is not vaccinated continue to wear a face covering when they are closer than six feet to another person.
Quarantine protocol still applies whether students are indoors or outdoors and/or wearing masks or no masks.
If a student is exposed to a person(s) with a confirmed COVID-19 case and they have been within six feet for fifteen or more minutes (mask or no mask), the student must be quarantined unless it is after 2 weeks of being fully vaccinated.
