New Mask Guidance

Outdoor Mask Guidance for High School and Middle School Athletic Events

  • Based on the Governor’s Executive Order 209 and new guidance from the NC High School Athletic Association, masks are no longer required for outdoor events.
  • The Order becomes effective at 5 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2021.
  • In situations where students are not actively participating and unable to physically distance, they are strongly encouraged, but not required, to wear masks.

Spectators at Outdoor Events:
  • Masks are no longer required at outdoor events; however, spectators are strongly encouraged to wear masks when unable to maintain physical distance.

Reminder:
  • While not required, NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) still recommends anyone who is not vaccinated continue to wear a face covering when they are closer than six feet to another person.
  • Quarantine protocol still applies whether students are indoors or outdoors and/or wearing masks or no masks.
    • If a student is exposed to a person(s) with a confirmed COVID-19 case and they have been within six feet for fifteen or more minutes (mask or no mask), the student must be quarantined unless it is after 2 weeks of being fully vaccinated.
