At its monthly work session on Monday, May 7, 2018, the Cabarrus County Board of Education voted to make Wednesday, May 16th an optional teacher work day in anticipation of teacher absences for the March for Students and Rally for Respect scheduled for that day in Raleigh. Students will not be required to make up the day.
To date, the district has received requests from approximately 600 teachers to be out of the classroom on May 16th. With that number of absences, schools are not able to ensure proper supervision and instruction for students.
District leaders are working with principals and school administrators to address scheduling issues such as AP exams.
The KIDS: PLUS Program is currently working on plans to operate Special Day sites on May 16th, offering full-day care at select locations for families currently enrolled in the KIDS: PLUS Program.
As soon as plans are finalized, information will be shared with families by the site director at your child’s school. We will also share information on the KIDS: PLUS Program Website and social media. Spaces will be limited, so please be on the lookout for information and respond quickly to secure your child’s spot.
