A Message from Dr. Chris Lowder, Superintendent 03/14/2019
Superintendent Lowder

Cabarrus County Schools continues to enhance campus safety. In April, we will begin staggered, random safety checks using metal detectors in our secondary level schools. We want to deter students from bringing weapons and inappropriate items to school and believe these devices will help us to do that.

Initially, we will begin implementing the safety checks in four schools to learn best practices and make process adjustments before a complete implementation in all of our middle and high schools in the fall.

We have worked with security screening professionals to train the school safety teams, and school staff will receive training before the safety checks begin at their schools. Parents and students also will receive information about expectations and procedures prior to the start of the checks, which are another layer of safety that we provide to secure our campuses.  You can learn more about all of the district’s safety efforts here.

March is Youth Art Month and Music in our Schools Month. Students’ visual arts, musical, and theatrical talents are on display in a variety of venues. We will celebrate both of these observances with our annual Arts Festival in Downtown Concord on Friday, April 5th. Be sure to check out our Fine Arts Focus page for information about performances, displays and events.

Student artists also have an opportunity to showcase their talents in the 9th Annual Future Jewelry Designer Contest sponsored by Ellis Jewelers. Students in grades 3-12 are encouraged to enter for a chance to have a one-of-a-kind ring or pendant created from their original design.

We will welcome the Class of 2032 during the week of April 8th for kindergarten registration at our elementary schools.

In closing, here are a couple of important dates for your calendar:

  • March 21st – BOE Budget Work Session
  • March 29th – Teacher Workday/No School for Students
