Superintendent's Message
December 6, 2018

A Message from Dr. Chris Lowder, Superintendent 12/06/2018
Superintendent Lowder
Congratulations to the newly sworn in Board of Education members – Laura Blackwell, Carolyn Carpenter and Holly Grimsley. Family and friends gathered on Dec. 3rd to witness their swearing in ceremony during the Board’s monthly work session.
Congratulations also are in order for re-elected Board Chair Cindy Fertenbaugh and Board Member Rob Walter, who was elected vice chair. Special thanks to outgoing board members Dr. Robert Kirk and Vince Powell, as well as to former board member Tim Furr. Thank you for your service, commitment and dedication to the students and staff of Cabarrus County Schools.
The Student Realignment Committee will present its recommendations to the Board on Monday, Dec. 10th at the regularly scheduled business meeting. Committee members were selected last spring and have been working throughout the summer and fall on this recommendation. This is important work that will alter school boundary lines in an effort to balance out enrollment in our schools.
The official start of winter is still a couple of weeks away on the calendar, but the threat of inclement winter weather for our area is much closer. Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with our Inclement Weather Procedures. Our weather planning team is monitoring forecasts. We will share information about any changes to the school schedule in a timely manner.
In closing, here are a couple of reminders about important dates:
  • Submissions for the Annual Holiday eCard Contest are due by 5 p.m. Dec. 7th.
  • Applications for Program Choice are due by noon Dec. 18th. Learn more about all of district’s offerings here.

Chris Lowder, Ed.D.
