Shelly VanSanford

This is my first full year teaching exceptional children here at the Opportunity School in Cabarrus County! I have a Master's degree in Cross-Categorical Special Education and have taught at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. I have taught in the Cabarrus County Schools district as well as that of Newton Conover City Schools.

This year at Opportunity I will be teaching resource classes and co-teaching math and English at the High School level. My mission since the begining of my teaching journey has been, and still is, to facilitate every student's sense of inherent self-worth and guide them in right choices, habits, and skills to make their unique mark on the world for good.

Some of the resource courses we utilize are provided through NCVPS, North Carolina Virtual Public Schools, and I, along with our EC assistant Ms. Barbara Metz, collaborate with the online teacher to explore and modify the content from these courses to individualize instruction. Content within the Co-taught classes is delivered using, of course, the Standard Courses of Study.

I very much look forward to establishing a rewarding working relationship this year with each of the parents whose students I teach, and am available most easily through my email address listed below.

Here's to a positive, disciplined, and accomplished year!
