Ms. Huang

Hi! My name is Betty (Yan Huang for Chinese name). I'm so glad to be a 2nd grade mandarin teacher in Cox Mill Elementary!

I come from Nantong, a small city in Jiangsu Province of China. This city is famous for its' develpment in education, and it’s only two hours’ drive from Shanghai. I graduated from East China Normal University in Shanghai with Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. I’ve also taken Master courses during the three years of working and just received Master’s degree in Education from Plymouth State University.

Before I came here, I’ve taught Chinese to kids aged from 6 to 7 in Shanghai American School for three years. I once came to the United States and stayed for five months in my senior year of university. I participated in Oregon International Internship Program and taught Chinese to low elementary students in Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School in Eugene.

Through my teaching experience, I've found that students who are enrolled in Chinese immersion program become more confident about themselves and more adaptable to a new culture environment. I enjoyed every moment when I saw students being eager to talk with Chinese people and showed what they had learned during our field trips. I believe that my students will be more engaged in learning math, science and social studies through the Chinese immersion program in Cox Mill Elementary School. And they will become more confident to communicate with foreign people, especially Chinese people when they go to China!

Of course, our little angels also need parents' support to make any progress. I will establish a close and positive relationship with parents. Thank you for helping 2nd grade Mandarin class!

Best Regards,

Betty Huang
