What We're Learning
We are finishing up our historical fiction unit where students analyzed how characters are impacted by historical and social issues and how different perspectives exist for the same event.
Our next unit is social issue book clubs where students will deepen their interpretation skills by opening the idea that books have more than one central theme and that these themes can also live across texts.
Students will read for 20 minutes each night, Monday through Friday. They are to record the title of the book in their agendas. Students may complete lessons in I-Ready to count towards their reading each night. Students also have a weekly response to complete that is due every Friday.
Students just published their opinion essays on their favorite places, foods and activities.
Our next unit will be on the Literary Essay: Writing about Fiction which allows writers to connect reading and writing by analyzing text and thinking critically about ideas presented in literary texts. Students will use their knowledge of writing essays to refine their usage of the essay structure.
