My hope is that we will soon be back in our building with our Mavericks! While my role looks a bit different for now, my primary duty remains the same....to help our students access their education and perform to their fullest potential. Please don't hesitate to email me if I can help you in that endeavor! See you soon!!!   ~Arona Haywood

My name is Arona Haywood and I have been a School Counselor in Cabarrus County since 1996.  My husband, David, and I have three children; Dawson at WCU, Kaide at UNCC and Thatcher at HRHS. We enjoy watching the kids play sports, attending Venture Church, going to the beach, researching our genealogy and spending time with family and friends.

I've worked at Concord Middle, JN Fries Middle, Pitts School Road Elementary, Mt. Pleasant Middle, and am currently the 7th grade counselor at HiRMS.  The middle school years are some of the most challenging but also the most fun!!! I look forward to working with the students, parents, teachers and staff to insure the academic success of students.

The Student Support Services Department offers a multi-tiered system of support with:

-Individual Counseling - brief, solution focused counseling to help students overcome obstacles to learning.
-Group Counseling - specifically designed to meet the needs of small groups of students in order to be successful in the classroom.
-Large Group Classroom Guidance - lessons that cover the nine Guidance Essential Standards and address the needs of whole classrooms.
-Collaboration - between school, home and student to create a positive learning experience.
-Consulting - determining student needs and matching them to available resources.
-Core Curriculum Planning - whole school programs designed to embed the essential standards into the daily atmosphere of our school.
-Individual Student Planning - to help students set and meet their own academic and behavioral goals.
-Responsive Services - to manage crises on an individual or global level.
-Indirect Services - to support teachers and parents in creating a successful environment for students.

We support Career, Cognitive and Socio-Emotional development and tailor our program to meet the needs of all students.  Please let us know if we can be of service!
