Welcome to Learning Connections and Hickory Ridge High School.
The Learning Connections program allows students to strive for their highest potential within an environment that nurtures special limitations and fosters growth. I believe each student can achieve goals and accomplish dreams with hard work, responsibility, accountability, and integrity; and we will help them each step of the way. The LC classroom provides supports to students as they work toward achieving their academic and social goals.
In my sixth year of classroom teaching, I earned a Master's of Art in Teaching in Special Education in December 2016 after spending more than 20 years in the public relations and marketing field – working for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and with various NASCAR drivers and sponsors afterward. My bachelor’s degree is in public relations from the University of Florida. I always had an interest in education and decided to make the leap in 2013 by attending classes at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte.
Continuing our remote learning journey, I look forward to seeing all the students’ faces once again even if it is through the computer as we meet Monday through Thursday in live classes to start the school year. Use the http://cabarrus.instructure.com/ link to gain access to Canvas courses. Here students will find their courses and information needed for each day's activities. The Canvas link is also on the HRHS website's front page. Links to the NCVPS courses are also provided within these courses where appropriate.
During the Fall 2020 semester in Learning Connections, we will be collaborating on the following subjects in the classroom:
1st period: Social Skills
2nd period: Foundations of Math 1 and Math 2
3rd period: English I, II, III and IV
Office Hours: 7:15-7:45 a.m. & 1:25 - 1:50 p.m. Monday thru Thursday; 7:15-8:30 a.m. & 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Friday
SEE LIVE CLASS LINKS ON LEFT SIDE TO ACCESS CLASSES.
Away from school, my husband and I enjoy watching our daughter play softball and I am active in my daughter's Girl Scout troop. We also like going to our son's hockey games and listening to him play the saxophone for Hickory Ridge Middle School -- our dogs often join in during practice sessions at home. As time allows, we travel around the United States, taking in as many sites as we can. During this past summer, we were able to go to Florida for some beach time and Universal Studios, visit our favorite retreat in West Virginia and see the impressive caverns in Luray, Virginia.
Please feel free to contact me anytime through email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (704-260-6630). Remind app is also available to reach me via text. Google voice is another option for texts and calls at (980) 428-9648. I will return emails, texts and phone calls within 24 hours at the latest.
While this year may seem different, we will have fun and have a great time as we embark on another year of learning!
