Welcome to Mrs. Braswell's Classes
8th grade: Technological Systems - this STEM based course builds on the 7th grade course to help develop a student's understanding of the scope of technology and the iterative nature of technological design. Technological Systems is intended to teach students how technological systems work together to solve problems and capture opportunities. A system can be as small as two components working together (technical system/device level) or can containing millions of interaciting devices (user system/network level). We often break down the macro systems into less complicated microsystems in order to understand the entire system better. This course will give students a general background on the different types of systems, but will concentrate more on the connections between the different types of systems. Students participate in engineering design activities to understand how criteria, constraints and processes affect designs. Students are involved in activities and experiences where they learn brainstorming, visualization, modeling, constructing, testing and refining designs. They also develop skills in researching specific information, communicating design ideas and reporting results.
7th grade: Technology, and Engineering - This STEM based class provides students with opportunities to apply the design process to the invention or innovation of products, process or systems. Through project-based learning, student will learn about the core concepts of technology and problem-solving through the engineering design process and experimentation. Students will apply their creativity in the invention and innovation of new products, and learn about how various technologies impact their lives. Students participating in engineering design activities to understand how criteria, constraints and processes affect designs. Other student activities and experiences where they learn about brainstorming, visualizing, modeling, constructing, testing, experimenting, and refining designs.
6th grade: Exploring Career Decisions - this middle school course provides an orientation to the world of work. Emphasis is placed on self-awareness, the different types of skills that will help you get a job, and the career planning process. Based on the National Career Development Guidelines, skills learned in this course include, but are not limited to, communication, personal mamagement and teamwork. Worked-based learning strategies appropriate for the course are also included.
Enjoy your summer. I look forward to seeing you in August!
