Harold E. Winkler Middle School: An academy for international studies

Harold E. Winkler Middle School opened in August 2011, and is named for former Superintendent Harold "Butch" Winkler, who led the district from the 1990s until 2009, and who still lives in our community.  Our school is one of the most beautiful facilities in North Carolina, with our state of the art atrium, performing arts center, and gym that seats 1,500.  Our school is also equipped with 14 full science labratories, a technology center, a makerspace, our zen room, and a 21st century media center.

Set on a beautiful campus with four athletic fields, gardens maintained by our horticulture classes, an outdoor classroom, and a neighborhood greenway constructed by our students, and adjoining the Weddington Hills Elementary community park, Winkler Middle School is the perfect setting for a great education.
