    Attention Hickory Ridge Brainiacs!!

If you have a STRONG command of your academic subjects, a passion for popular culture, and a love for trivial pursuit...PLEASE put your smarty pants on and join the Hickory Ridge National Academic Quiz Bowl Team.  Your coaches this year are Ms. Raines in 8th grade and Ms. Valentine in 7th.   Quiz Bowl is open to all grade levels.  Please be aware that Quiz Bowl is a once a week after-school commitment, and we will compete against other schools in at least two Saturday tournaments beginning in January.  You must provide your own transportation for these events.   Please contact Mrs. Raines by email if you have any questions.

    Attention Quiz Bowl Members:

     https://www.naqt.com/YouGottaKnow/

Dear Quiz Bowl Team and Parents --

    1.  There were some complications trying to nail down transportation and scheduling for the FEBRUARY 8th Quiz Bowl practice tournament in Mooresville.  Therefore, we will not be able to attend the meet.
I am deeply sorry, but we really are not prepared to compete with the other teams yet.  Now we have more time to get stronger --

     2.  The HOME tournament scheduled here on Thursday, FEBRUARY 22nd is still going to be held.  We need to decide if we are doing 2 hour practices on Mondays or meeting 2 days per week for one hour each day from now on.  Please email me your preferences and/or days you are not able to stay for practice.  On MONDAY Feb. 5th we will get our new practice schedule FINALIZED.    My email is valerie.raines@cabarrus.k12.nc.us  or you may bring me a written note!

ATTENTION -- A decision was reached today that we will practice on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 to 5 pm!!  We may also be using MAV TIME Wednesdays to practice, so stay alert for announcements.

    3.  For the REGIONAL TOURNAMENT on Saturday, March 3rd -- I would like for us to go together on an activity bus so that we can run more questions.   However, this means that we will have to collect money per person to cover our payment for the bus driver, and gas.  Given that the tournament is in Brown's Summit NC (over 2 hours away), and we will be gone several hours....we are probably looking at a cost between 15 to 20 dollars per kid and any adult who rides the bus.  We will also need to do bag lunches.  If this is not agreeable with everyone, then we will need to just drive individually, like we did for the Jamboree.  We are just fine with whatever the group decides.

PLEASE GO TO MRS. RAINES' FACULTY WEBSITE TO COMPLETE A GOOGLE SURVEY FORM BY WEDNESDAY!!  (Located in Useful Links!)

Thanks guys -- Ms. Raines and Ms. Valentine

When we travel to tournaments, we will need:

*Volunteers - All schools are required to provide one adult volunteer per participating team. Schools failing to provide a volunteer will forfeit their matches until a volunteer is provided. Please show respect to your fellow schools by training this volunteer prior to the tournament. The volunteer should arrive prepared to read or keep score. Training will not be provided on site. ALSO make sure readers know to read packets in the order they are presented in the envelopes. Readers should ask if they have doubts about the order in which packets should be read.
