Welcome to Third Grade!
I am a graduate of UNCC. My family consists of four children and eight grandchildren. Mr. Beaver and I have been married for 35 years.
This is my 20th year with CCS. The last 11 years have been here at Coltrane-Webb including the transition to being a STEM School.
The STEM experience is a wonderful way to teach. PBLs (Problem-Based Learning) give students the opportunity to think their way through real world problems with peers. Engineering activities challenge all students to use their diverse talents to find new and innovative ways to create physical solutions to problems. I love this curriculum. It is fun for both student and teacher!
I am super excited this year to be teaching all subjects again! The last 2 years we have been departmentalized and I have taught ELA/Social Studies. This year the county has changed its policy and Third Graders are now assigned to a single teacher. The Third Grade team will work together to provide our students with the very best instruction.
I am also the mentor for the Fifth/Fourth Grade Chess Club. High school students run the program. Last year, at Coltrane-Webb, we hosted the third Chess Competition and it was terrific. Our students represented us well by taking First, second, and Third Place!
There are things that never change and one of those is reading. I teach my students that reading is the key to a successful life. Reading everyday helps create reading muscles that will last a lifetime. It is a tool that can help you accomplish your goals or take you on a trip to an unknown land.
I know that you will enjoy being a part of our family! Coltrane-Webb Elementary is a great place to be.
