Mrs. Joanne Bernard, 7th Grade STEM

Starting March 30th, students from JN Fries can participate in Stay-at-Home STEM! Each week, Mrs. Merrell and I will post two new STEM challenges for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Students can find the challenges on the Google Classroom STEM page for their team or class. After completing each challenge, students will use Flipgrid to show us what they've done. Each Monday, Mrs. Merrell and I will add the names of all students who completed challenges into a drawing for a prize.

If you have a 6th or 7th grade student who needs the code to sign up for Google Classroom, please contact me via email. If you have an 8th grade student who needs a code, please contact Mrs. Merrell.

Information about students under 13 using Flipgrid can be found here. If you do not want your student using Flipgrid, he or she can still participate by sharing responses with me or Mrs. Merrell through Google Drive.

Getting Started with Stay-at-Home STEM

I have been with Cabarrus County Schools for most of my teaching career including six years teaching at Rocky River Elementary and five years at JN Fries before the magnet program started.

I've been teaching in the STEM program here at JN Fries since it began in 2011. In those years I've had the pleasure of teaching sixth and seventh grade and working with many wonderful teachers, students, and parents. I'm looking forward to another great year at Fries.

This year, I will be working with all the seventh grade teachers on bringing engineering into every subject area. Be sure to ask your student about the exciting hands-on activities we'll be doing throughout the year.
