Today's Suggested Homework (Monday - Thursday):

Math

I rarely assign specific Math homework, but recommend that students work on math every day, at least Monday through Thursday.  If they have a lot of other homework, they may skip a day. They can work on ALEKS or i-Ready.  I also encourage them to explore the other activities on my Math website, including money and time games and much more.  Log-in information will be emailed home.

ELA:

I rarely assign specific ELA homework, but recommend, at least Monday through Thursday, that students work on i-Ready Reading or ReadTheory or read and tell you or write about what they read.  I also encourage them to explore the other activities on my ELA website.  If they have a lot of other homework, they may skip a day.  Log-in information will be emailed home.

I am delighted to be teaching English & Language Arts and Math here at Hickory Ridge Middle School.  Harrisburg is where I raised my children, who are now young adults, and so I feel like I have come home.
I enjoy working with students, parents, and teachers, to help each student to succeed!

Each student should bring his/her IRB (the independent reading book he/she chose) home each day.  For them to become stronger readers, they should read, at least a chapter, most every evening at home.  Please ask them about their book each day, and perhaps have a conversation about how the story is progressing.  Let me know if you would like some ideas for questions to ask them.  It can be as simple as who, what, where, when, why and how.  You can take turns, alternating who reads sentences, to keep the story flowing.  When there is dialogue in the book, you can each pick a character to read.

Students are welcome to use the links on my website for practice at home.

Students are graded on their progress on their individualized work in their ELA and Math folders/classwork/online.  Please use the parent and/or student portal to check all of their grades.  I would recommend checking at least once a week.

Please see the links on this website for a variety of activities for students to practice reading, grammar, spelling, math and keyboarding skills.

Thanks so very much for all your support.  Please continue to keep in touch, so that we can work together to make this the best year yet!
