Mrs. Stephanie Eller
Welcome Boger Beacons! I am looking forward to the 2022-2023 school year! This is my 23rd year teaching third grade. I graduated from Meredith College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Child Development with a K-6 certificate. I have been teaching at Boger since it opened 16 years ago. I am married and have two children that attended Boger. My son graduated from UNCC and my daughter from Appalachian State University. I love teaching and spending time with my family and friends! Here on my webpage, you will be able to find information about our classroom and resources you can use at home. I am looking forward to having another great year at Boger!

Reader’s Workshop: This month we will be launching Reader’s Workshop by establishing classroom reading expectations. Mini-lessons will focus on how to select “just right” books, reviewing qualities of effective readers, building reading stamina, asking questions before/during/after reading, and studying how character’s actions contribute to the plot of the story. Students will use their reading journal to respond to text.
Writing: Our first unit is on narrative writing. We will read/study mentor texts to help students develop character’s traits, feelings, motivation, and mood through descriptive words/details in their writing.
Math Workshop: In math workshop we will be establishing classroom procedures and expectations so we can spend maximum time fully engaged in learning activities to promote higher level thinking. This month we will focus on understanding multiplication strategies (repeated addition, making equal groups, arrays, skip counting), using algorithms, and multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10. Your child will begin multiplying by 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, and 11.
Science: Our first unit in science is the Human Body. We will be focusing on skeletal systems, muscular systems, skin, heart, and digestive system. The students will even get to explore owl pellets! Students will record observations and new understandings in their science journals.
