Mr. Gregg Hartzell-First Grade

Hi, and thanks for checking out my web page.  I just wanted to take a minute to tell you a little bit about who I am.  I am in my 14th year teaching at Rocky River.  During that time I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th.  This will be my second year teaching 1st grade.  I am so super excited about this upcoming school year.  Also, I grew up in the Pittsburgh area.  I graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in History.  A few fun things that I like to do when I am not teaching are to take day trips, read a good mystery book, or watch comedy movies, and play and watch sports.  My favorite sports teams to watch are the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers.  Finally, I am looking forward to meeting you and having an awesome year together!!

We have the following special rotation:
Day 1: Art
Day 2: Music
Day 3: Fit Lab
Day 4: Service
Day 5: Innovation
Day 6: PE
Make sure you have tennis shoes on Fit Lab and PE days.

    "What is Morning Meeting?"

Morning Meeting is an engaging way that we will begin our day together, it helps build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically. To accomplish this goal we will gather in a circle for up to twenty minutes doing up to four purposeful components:

    1. Greeting: Students and teachers greet one another by name.
    2. Sharing: Students share information about something important in their lives. Listeners can offer comments or ask questions for more details.
    3. Group Activity: Everyone will participate in a quick, but exciting activity that helps students practice their social and academic skills.
    4. Morning Message: Students will recite the class pledge: "I pledge today to do my best in reading, math, science, and specials. I promise to obey the rules in all of my classes and school.  I'll respect myself and others too, I'll expect the best in all I do.  I am here to learn all I can, to try my best, and be all I am."
