Mr. Gregg Hartzell-Second Grade
Hi, and thanks for checking out my web page. I just wanted to take a minute to tell you a little bit about who I am. I am starting my 15th year teaching at Rocky River. During that time, I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. After teaching first grade during the last two school years, I have returned to 2nd grade. I am so super excited about returning to 2nd grade. I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. I graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in History. A few fun things that I like to do when I am not teaching are to take day trips, read a good mystery book, or watch comedy movies, and play and watch sports. My favorite sports teams to watch are the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers.
I am looking forward to starting the year virtually and learning a lot of new things together. Email me at greg.hartzell@cabarrus.k12.nc.us This is the best way to contact me with any questions and or updates.

"What is Morning Meeting and Message?"
Morning Meeting is an engaging way to begin our day together, this helps the class build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically. To accomplish this goal we will gather in a circle for up to twenty minutes doing up to four purposeful components:
- Greeting: Students and teachers greet one another by name.
- Sharing: Students share information about something important in their lives. Listeners can offer comments or ask questions for more details.
- Group Activity: Everyone will participate in a quick, but exciting activity that helps students practice their social and academic skills.
- Morning Message: Is a message that is read by the whole class. It is a perfect way to weave reading, writing, word study, or math into a quick daily lesson.
