Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to my web page! I am originally from Havelock, NC. I graduated with a double major in English and Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Also, I am the current Head Coach of Men's Soccer for HRHS.
I love literature, but even more than that, I love the effect it can have on changing a young mind. I look forward to helping students realize the value of the books we read, as well as the value of the art within each of them.
I believe one of the empowering aspects of literature and English is the ability to communicate and relate to one another through this unique vehicle. We all have emotions and experiences that contribute to our personality, English provides a window into other people's psyche, which can be used as a tool to help us cope or feel like we are not alone. Whether it is a coming of age story, or a non fiction article about the Holocaust, we are given the insight into someone else's life, whether it is fiction or nonfiction.
Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to host any live sessions for the virtual Curriculum Night this evening due to the Varsity soccer game being rescheduled for tonight and I am the Head Coach of Boy's Soccer Program. I am very sorry I will be unable to see you; however, if you would like to request a meeting with me, please email me and we can manage those arrangments. Have a great night!
We are currently studying Archetypes, an idea created by Carl Jung and made popular by Joseph Campbell, and using Star Wars as a way to better grasp these tough concepts. We will be studying Creation Myths, Norse Mythology, Egyptian Mythology, Japanese Mythology, and have a Super Hero unit as well. If you have any questions about the curriculum please feel free to email me at:
We just finished our Lighthouse project, which had students select an inspirational person and present them to the class. We will be moving on to writing down our goals and hopefully some of ambitions moving forward. The first part of the class is about exploration into what drives students, who they want to be and most importantly what they want to achieve in life. Throughout this semester we will consisently do TED Talk Tuesday, which introduces students to new ideas and also new ways of approaching success. We will also continue doing a class favorite, Friday Music Analysis, where we analyze figurative language from the classes favorite songs and artists.
If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out at any time!!
