Mrs. Melanie Elicker
About Ms. Elicker: I am originally from near State College, PA. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education: Communications degree from California University of Pennsylvania with certifications in English, Communications, and Theatre.
I am thrilled to have been here when HRHS opened in the 2007-2008 school year and have witnessed our school's growth in years since.
My teaching experience prior to HRHS included Chicago Public Schools, the CPS Virtual Charter School, and CMS's Northwest School of the Arts. For 8 years I taught theatre at HRHS; and during the 2016-17 school year I transitioned into teaching Honors English IV, English IV, Speech and Debate, and Honors Speech & Debate. I was excited to make the change, drawing upon my own experiences debating at Cal U and at the Pennsylvania Governor's School for International Studies: Politics & Law. I had also taught these specific English courses during my student teaching at Trinity HS in Washington, PA and Avella HS in Avella, PA where I also had the privilege to coach Avella's debate team and take them to competition at Washington and Jefferson College.
My teaching philosophy revolves around lessons that incorporate activity within a communicative classroom environment. I believe that students learn through their own discovery and through overcoming their challenges in order to accomplish great things.
Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you may have.
