What are we learning!!!!!
Reading - We are currently working in the nonfiction text unit. We will learn about text structures in nonfiction writing. We will also learn about the main idea, how to use context clues for word meaning, and author's purpose. Finally, we will work on summarizing nonfiction texts.
Math - We are working multiplication strategies and division strategies with whole numbers. We will also work on solving word problems with multiplication and division. We will then move on to order of operations and expressions. We will finish this unit learning how to find the volume of rectangular prisms.
Science - Our first science unit is called Living Organisms. We will learn that organisms can be either unicellular or multicellular organisms. We will also learn the purpose and parts of the skeletal system, muscular system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, circulatory system, digestive system, and nervous system. We will end this unit learning how these systems work with other body systems to help the organism stay alive. Our second unit is genetics. We will learn about inherited traits and learned traits in humans, animals, and plants.
Social Studies - The first social studies unit is Pre-colonial era and colonization. We will learn about the 13 colonies and the impact that the colonists had on the shaping of the United States.Some of the Responsibilities of 5th graders are:1. Independence - We will earn that 5th graders are responsible for coming to class prepared, staying on task at school, and going home prepared.2. Organization - Students will learn that organization influences independence and success. Students will use their agenda to help them be prepared for school.3. Nightly Homework - Students will have nightly homework. They will need to study his/her math and science notebook and read.4. Study - We will also promote studying. (Reading through his/her math notebook and science notebook nightly). This skill is important to instill for success in middle school, high school, and college.
