My name is Carla Looney, and I am thrilled to be joining R. Brown McAllister STEM this year!  I will be teaching 1st grade.

I was born and raised in Concord.  I received my teaching degree at UNC Charlotte.  My husband, Michael, and I have been married for 20 years.  We have two wonderful children.  My oldest son is 14 years old and will be starting high school this year.  My youngest son is 10 years old and will be in 5th grade here at R. Brown.  When I'm not at school, I'm on the ball field watching the boys play baseball.   For fun and relaxation, our family loves to camp in our RV.

This will be my 18th year teaching in Cabarrus County Schools.  I have taught 1st grade every year except one year when I looped up with my students to 2nd grade.  I taught at W.M. Irvin Elementary for 11 years and for 6 years at Patriots STEM Elementary.  I'm truly blessed to join the Bobcat family and have my youngest child be apart of the wonderful things going on at our STEM school!

I love working with first graders because they have such a zest for learning!  First grade is such a vital year in building a strong foundation, in which they will build on in their future. Teaching students to read, comprehend what they read, write, add, subtract, tell time, solve real life problems, collaborate with others, and build relationships are part of that strong foundation. They will use these skills for the rest of their lives!  For me to say that I have impacted their lives, puts a big smile on my face and joy in my heart!  That is why I do what I do... TEACH!!  There is no better job than this!!
