Mr. Smith

    Principal: Todd Smith

    Mr. Smith graduated from Appalachian State University in 1992 with a B.S. in Social Studies/Secondary Education and entered the teaching profession as a Social Studies teacher at West Charlotte High, where he taught from 1992-1997. Mr. Smith entered the NC Principal Fellows Program in 1997 and received his Masters in School Administration from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1999. Mr. Smith was as Assistant Principal and Assistant Principal of Instruction at Central Cabarrus High from 1999-2005. In 2005 Mr. Smith became the Principal of Jay M Robinson High, where he served as Principal from 2005-2008. In 2008 Mr. Smith was named the Principal of Cox Mill High.
    Mr. Smith and his wife Shane have two children, Michael and Ellie. Mr. Smith enjoys spending his free time with his family, trail running, and watching college football.

    Ms. Blakeney
    Assistant Principal: Yolanda Blakeney

    Ms. Yolanda Blakeney graduated from Wingate University in 1996 with a B.S. in Chemistry. She entered the teaching profession in 1996 as a lateral entry teacher. Ms. Blakeney went on to complete teacher certification at UNC-C in 2001, National Board Certification in Chemistry in 2007, and a Masters in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University in 2011. Ms. Blakeney spent 16 years in the classroom teaching Physical Science, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Physics in Union County, NC at Monroe High School from 1996 - 2012. Ms. Blakeney then joined Cabarrus County at ECHS in 2012 where she taught chemistry and freshmen seminar for 2 years. She completed her K-12 add-on certification for administration at Appalachian State University in 2012 and was Dean of Students for ECHS form 2014-2017. Her latest endeavor is Assistant Principal at Cox Mill High School. Ms. Blakeney is the mother of 4 wonderful children (Natalie, Issac, Jamie, and Jamin) and loves to travel the world with family and friends.

    Mr. Lowry
    Assistant Principal of Instruction: Mark Lowry
    Mr. Lowry graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2005 with a B.S. in Middle Grades Education and entered the teaching profession as a Mathematics teacher at J.M. Alexander Middle School, where he taught from 2006-2009. Mr. Lowry entered the Educational Leadership program at UNCC in 2009 and received his Masters in School Administration from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2011. Mr. Lowry was a Principal Intern at Cox Mill High for the 2010-2011 School Year. In 2011 Mr. Lowry became an Assistant Principal at Cox Mill High School. Mr. Lowry and his wife Cherie have two children, Charleston (Charlie) and Whitaker (Whit). Mr. Lowry enjoys spending his free time with his family, running, and cheering on the Carolina Panthers.
    Assistant Principal: Deborah Walker
    Mrs. Walker graduated from East Carolina University with a BS in Early Childhood Education, holds a Master’s in Human Development and Learning from UNC-Charlotte, and an Advanced Educational Leadership Degree from Nova Southeastern University. She also holds an Intermediate Education Certification, an Administrative Certification, and a Special Education Director Certification. Mrs. Walker worked for Kannapolis City Schools for eight years as an Elementary and Middle School teacher; and for ten years as Curriculum Coordinator, Co-Director for Title I Federal Programs, and Observer/Evaluator. She was Assistant Principal at South Charlotte Middle School in Charlotte-Mecklenburg for four years. Mrs. Walker previously served as Assistant Principal for five years at two high schools in Cabarrus County, and for three years as Assistant Director of the Exceptional Children’s Program for Cabarrus County Schools.   During early retirement, she also held interim positions as Principal and/or Assistant Principal at five schools in Cabarrus County. She served for the last four years as Assistant Principal of Instruction at Harris Road Middle School. Mrs. Walker has a son and three step-children. She enjoys spending her free time reading, and traveling with her husband.

    Principal Intern: Jennifer Wallace

    Mrs. Wallace graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University with a BA in Economics/French and Queens University with an MAT in elementary education. Mrs. Wallace began her teaching career as a middle school English teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.  Mrs. Wallace began teaching in Cabarrus County in 2001 at W.M. Irvin Elementary. Mrs. Wallace moved and worked in Georgia for 8 years as an K-5 Elementary Teacher, Early Intervention Specialist and Math Coach before returning to Cabarrus County. Upon returning to Cabarrus County, Mrs. Wallace has worked as a K-5 classroom teacher, Lead Teacher and Interventionist.  Mrs. Wallace entered the NC Principal Fellows Program in 2016 and is currently working on her Masters in School Administration from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Wallace and her husband, Scott, have two boys, Noah, age 13, and Jonah, age 5. Mrs. Wallace enjoys reading, camping, and spending time with friends and family.
