Welcome to 6th grade Language and Literature.   I look forward to working with each of you this year.  Our goal will be to create our own opinions from text and back our thoughts up with evidence to develop a deeper understanding of the text and ourselves.       If you ever have any questions please feel free to contact me either by phone or email.

HOMEWORK:
 
Students should be reading 20-30 pages nightly in their independent reading book. They should then log it on their weekly reading log. Written response to reading will be completed in class. Reading Logs/Think Boxes will be turned in biweekly on Mondays as a mastery grade assessment.
 
Students will be given 15 vocabulary words to study and use over the course of a two week period. They will have nightly assignments to complete that will focus on using the words in context which will prepare them to take a quiz at the duration of the two weeks. Quizzes will be recorded as a mastery grade.
 

READING HOMEWORK REQUIREMENTS (Second Semester).   *READING HOMEWORK IS NIGHTLY - Pages read from IRB should be recorded nightly on the reading log.

1ST PERIOD: 20 Pages A Night =minimum of 100 pgs/wk

2ND PERIOD: 25 Pages A Night =minimum of 125 pgs/wk

3RD PERIOD: 30 Pages A Night =minimum of 150 pgs/wk

4TH PERIOD: 20 Pages A Night =minimum of 100 pgs/wk

Students should have 5 CW (classwork) reading entries logged each day and a minimum of 5 HW entries logged for a total of 10 entries for 1 week

    Progess reports and report cards will not be printed as a whole.

    Parent Portal to view grades will be up and running.  Username and passwords that have been previously set up should still work the same. 

    If you have a new student to Winkler they may come to see Mrs. Shealy anytime for their access letter to take home. 

    For parents/students that want to download the APP to their phone, they will need the county code which is available on the homepage for CCS.
