Degrees and Certifications:

B.A. in Biology

Abby Hooker

I am very excited to be joining Cox Mill High School this year! This will be my fourth year of teaching 6th-9th science.

I grew up in Western North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I graduated in 2016 with a degree in Biology. I have spent the last 9 years in the Raleigh-Durham area where I taught 6th and 7th grade science at Kestrel Heights Charter School. During this time, I founded and directed Carolina CHAOS Volleyball Club which is an AAU organization that aims to provide girls at an economic disadvantage the opportunity to compete at a national level with hopes to play collegiate volleyball. I also coached the varsity volleyball teams at Carborro High (2015-2017) and South Granville High (2019-2021). While coaching at Carrboro we won the NCHSAA 2A State Championship in 2016 and 2017 with a 61-0 record and while at both schools never lost the conference title. I am super excited to be coaching the volleyball team here at Cox Mill! Go Chargers!!!!

I am very passionate about creating a meaningful learning experience. My classroom is hands on and collaborative. Expect to be challenged to think creatively and critically! All materials will be found on Canvas and students will need to have their Chromebook and a notebook of their choice for my class.
